can you answer these questions to your answer to: Do you believe personality traits are inherited? In terms of personality, what is meant by ‘nature versus nurture’? How does Evolutionary Psychology explain individuals’ personalities and behaviors? Is there a benefit to explaining human behavior with integrated theories of nature and nurture?
First reply to your answer: Vivian – You summation is correct. All of you are very familiar with the concept of traits because you use them, probably every day to describe e yourself as well as your friends and relatives. Also, from a historical perspective, the concept of traits may be very, very old. Most approaches to personality make use of the concept of traits. They differ, however, primarily in how they explain the development of individual differences. Consider Allport’s description of a normal mature adult. Do you think these criteria are adequate, or would you suggest any change?

Third reply: Vivian,
Very well put analysis of the makeup of personality. I enjoyed your reference to the evolutionary theory of personality. I agree that personality is a combination of biological and genetic influence combined with individual and social experience. I also feel experience and age can effect personality over time through both neurological and learned responses. With this being said, do you feel that the the psychology of personality is useful for behavioral predictions? The basis of personality theory is that individual responses can be predicted over time based on personality. If personality is ever evolving, can it be ever be truly predictable?
