Consider One Text through the Lens of Another
Instructions:
In no more than 500 words, write a concise and precise, cohesive essay in which you do each of the following:
- define and explain Perspectivism and its origination;
- summarize Michael Lacewing’s “Nietzsche’s Perspectivism” and R.N. Carmona’s “Clarifying Nietzsche’s Perspectivism”–be sure to identify each of their major claims (aka, thesis statements); (I have attached the file)
- determine how Carmona’s text clarifies (makes clearer), extends (adds to), or complicates (makes more confusing or complex) Michael Lacewing’s text. (I have attached the file)
Requirements:
- Answer all parts of the prompt in a cohesive essay, not three individual answers.
- “Summary” means to capture the essence of, not retell. The summary for these texts should be completed in 1-2 sentences.
- Create strong topic sentences and transitions between ideas and paragraphs–lead your reader through your discussion.
- Illustrate mastery of MLA, including in-text citation and the Works Cited page. Do not double space, though.
- Do not drop quotes in (also called hit-and-run quotes)–be sure to integrate them with your own words and ideas. Do not use block quotes (quotes over four lines in length); they are not a good idea when writing a timed response.
- Proofread, proofread, proofread. Careful proofreading is required to complete college-level work.
- A fully developed introduction and conclusion are not required, as long as you respond to all of the prompt.
- Place your word count in parenthesis at the bottom of the page.
Perspectives, Midsets, and Truth/s
Instructions:
In no more than 500 words, write a concise and precise, cohesive essay in which you do each of the following:
- briefly summarize the X-Files’ episode, “Jose Chung’s from Outer Space,” and explain how it relates to perspectivism;
- briefly identify and then compare perspectives and/or opinions about truth from FOUR characters in the episode, and discuss which of the characters you selected have a “Soldier” and/or “Scout” mindset;
articulate your own perspective on what happened in the episode. Can you identify one or more truths? Does the episode suggest there is no truth?
